Today, we feel it is our moral duty to take care of those of our brothers and sisters who found themselves in previously occupied and already liberated territories. These days, an opportunity will open to reach them and bring them first and urgent help, warm them with the love of our hearts. The Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, said in his daily address on the 202nd day of Russia's war against Ukraine.

In his address, the Head of the UGCC talked about the situation in Ukraine. He emphasized that with God’s help, the Ukrainian people are reclaiming their God-given land, and new cities and villages are liberated from the murderous hand of the occupier.

On this day, His Beatitude Sviatoslav reflected on the ninth commandment of the “Public Guide of the Believer”: “I respect the earth's natural resources as God’s gift and use them judiciously.”

“Responsibility for the environment,” said the Archbishop, recalling that tomorrow, September 14, is the Day of God the Creator, “is an integral part of Christian morality.” A person cannot be happy without respect for the environment. We cannot be successful hosts. We cannot build a culture of life and a civilization of development without concern for the environment.”

“When we look today, added the Head of the Church, at what the enemy leaves behind – burned and destroyed cities and villages, burnt fields of wheat, plundered forests, mined chernozems, polluted ponds, rivers, and water sources from which you can no longer drink – we see that war is not only a crime against human life, but also a crime against God’s creation.”

He drew attention to the fact that, according to the testimonies of peasants and farmers, this year, God gave Ukraine such a harvest that no one remembers. “I think it’s not in vain. The Lord blesses us and provides the land with the yield and the fruit of our labor so that we are grateful – to God for his gifts and to our Ukrainian land for feeding us in the difficult times of military calamity,” said the Head of the UGCC.

According to him, we should share these gifts with all who were deprived of the opportunity to sow and reap and whom Ukrainian soldiers, soldiers of peace and light, have just released from under the Russian boot, who are in the greatest need today, who have suffered the most from this war.

In a video message on the eve of the Day of God the Creator, His Beatitude Sviatoslav gratefully addressed Ukrainian farmers and peasants and thanked them for their labour and courage to go into the field even when it may be dangerous for their life.
