We have this responsibility to tell the whole world about Holodomor tragedy, - His Beatitude Sviatoslav

We ought to realize that there is a moral responsibility of us all when it comes to Holodomor, the genocide, said the Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his interview to “Zvorotniy Vidlik” program.

“We need to realize that evil triumphs the moment we start splitting the difference with it. When we look up to it, when we keep quiet about it, when we do not have enough courage to say it openly, when evil is evil, and good is good”, he added.

The Major Archbishop assumes that evil wins when we are afraid to remember. As for him, statistics of people starved to death is not something granted time, forever. This is something alive. This memory should be preserved. We are responsible for keeping this memory alive, for truth being revealed.

Why is this so important? “Modern psychology dictates that if some trauma is not talked out, a person cannot get over it. Those decades of silence have even deteriorated this trauma. And we need to talk about it, so to prevent it from happening. We remember in order to prevent it. We are responsible for telling the whole world about it”, he emphasized.

The Head of the Church reckons that communism must be formally condemned on the international level.

“The Nuremberg trials over communist crimes had not been proceeded. Thus, communism has been haunting not only Europe ever since. In Latin America corruption of society is provoked by the fact that this idea is becoming alluring. It destroys and corrupts people’s souls”, he assumes.

And, probably, the Head of the UGCC mentions, our Ukrainian experience is about a necessity to tell the truth about crimes of Stalin’s regime.
