On behalf of the entire Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC, congratulated the community of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine on the Resurrection of Christ, which they celebrate this year on April 17.

On Saturday, April 16, on the eve of Easter according to the Gregorian calendar, the Head of the UGCC took part in the Easter Vigil at St. Alexander Cathedral in Kyiv. The service, headed by Bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi, Ordinary of Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese, was also attended by Special Papal Envoy Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Visvaldas Kulbokas, Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine and numerous clergy and faithful of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine.

“Christ is Risen! With this joyful Easter greeting let me, on behalf of the whole Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine and around the world, cordially congratulate all of you on the greatest Christian holiday - the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ, Pasch of our Lord”, said His Beatitude Sviatoslav at the end of the Easter Vigil, congratulating Roman Catholics on Easter.

In his speech, the Head of the UGCC noted that being a Christian means believing in the Risen One, and stressed that although Ukraine is grieving this year, it still celebrates Easter.

“To be a Christian means to believe in the Risen One. To be a Christian means to be a partaker of His Resurrection, to be a bearer of His joy and light. Today Ukraine is grieving, yet it celebrates Easter. Many people from around the world ask me: do you have hope there in Ukraine? I say: Obviously we do, because we believe in the Resurrection. Congratulations to all of you on this great holiday of hope! By death Christ conquered death, and to those in the graves He granted life. This victory of the Risen One is and will be the victory of Ukraine. I wish you happy holidays, God's blessing to your families, to our beloved Motherland! Christ is Risen!” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

We remind that the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, particularly in Ukraine, will celebrate Easter this year according to the Julian calendar on Sunday, April 24.
