Already for eleven consecutive years , the charitable organization, Caritas Ukraine, has conducted the Christmas Candle Project. This project has the goal of not only collecting donations for needy children but also to turn everyone’s attention to the problems of children who live next to us and who are dealing with crisis in their lives. This was the topic of the Epistle of His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), UGCC Head to the ruling archbishops in UGCC Kyiv- Halych Major Archbishopric.

As His Beatitude Sviatoslav writes, it is important to carry the message to the needy children that God and people love them and accord special attention and special concern for their future.

The project lies in dispersing Christmas candles made by challenged youth in UGCC parishes in Ukraine and outside of its borders as well as through partner organizations and communities and among all willing donators. The money collected from the Christmas candles through the regional branches of Caritas are directed to assist needy children, children from problematic and limited income families, physically and mentally challenged children and youth, children of work migrants, orphans and homeless children.

“In this epistle I give my blessing in support of Caritas Charitable Christmas Candle Project and appeal to you to respond favorably to this effort,” concludes the letter.

Already for eleven consecutive years Carits Ukraine, a charitable organization, has carried out the Christmas Candle Project. Its goal is to disperse – mainly through Ukrainain Greek-Catholic parishes in Ukraine and abroad, as well as through partner organizations and communities and all willing donators, candles handmade by physically and mentally challenged youth. The collected funds from this affort through regional branches of Caritas will be directed for the assistance of needy children, children in problematic and limited income families, physically and mentally challended children, children of work migrants, orphans and homeless ones.

Caritas Christmas Candle Project has as its goal not only to collect donations for needy children but also to turn everyone’s attention to the problems of children, living side-by-side with us and who are dealing with crisis situations.

In this letter I grant my blessing and support the conduct of this Christmas Candle Charitable Project by Caritas and its affi8iate organizations and urge you to support them in their endeavor.
