Prayer in Ivano-Frankivsk for peace in Syria

On September 7th, in the parish of Saints Cyril and Methodius, located in Krykhivka near Ivano-Frankivsk, there was an evening prayer vigil for no armed conflict in Syria as a sign of solidarity and spiritual unity with Holy Father Francis and UGCC Head His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk). The prayer vigil in the parish was led by Rev. Josaphat Boyce, VC. After this, in front of the Exposition of the Holy Sacraments, all joined in the Evening Prayers. The participants sang the Prayer of Jesus, expressing various wishes: for the Holy Church, the Pope, UGCC Head, bishops, priests, monks and nuns; for male and female missionaries; for Christian families, youth and children; for Christians in Syria and Egypt who are suffering cruel persecution in their countries.

Father Josaphat, who led the celebration of the Liturgy, blessed all with the Holy Sacraments and talked about the Christians in Syria and cruel persecution. He recalled a moment from his own life, when during his time in Argentina in 2006, one family told him that they at one time had prayed for Christians in Ukraine and the Soviet Union. “These people, not knowing Ukraine, wanted to pray for strength and perseverance of the Catholics during the times of the Underground Church. So also we,” said the priest, “not knowing the Syrians pray for them because we understand that many of their churches have been destroyed, many Christians killed, and that they need our prayers.” Participating in the vigil were parishioners, brothers-monks and youth from the congregation of young vocations, nuns from the UGCC Novitiate of the Blessed Josaphata Hordashevska, sisters and residents of the Home of Mercy in Krykhivka and Horokholyna, which is under the care of the sisters.
