Wednesday's meeting with the pilgrims ended with a prayer for peace in Ukraine, which Pope Francis encouraged to repeat frequently throughout the day, reminding that "Our Father" is a prayer of brothers and sisters pleading for reconciliation.

Every general audience held on Wednesday culminates in praying “Our Father” and the papal blessing. Wednesday, January 26 is declared an international day of prayer for peace over the situation in Ukraine.

At the end of the meeting he addressed the audience with the words of hope and encouragement to pray commonly for Ukraine and ask the Lord to grant Ukraine the rise of fraternity and enough power to overcome wounds, fears and divisions and suffering caused by famine and extreme violence.

“Let today's prayers and supplications rise up to heaven and touch the minds and hearts of world leaders, so that dialogue may prevail and the common good be placed ahead of partial interests”, the Pope said.
