On Wednesday, July 6, in Przemyśl (Poland) on the eve of the solemn opening of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in 2022, the bishops prayed to the Holy Spirit, took the synodal oath and carried the Holy Gospel in a procession to the meeting room.

Bishops of the UGCC from around the world gathered in Przemyśl for the Synod: Ukraine, Central and Western Europe, North and South America, Australia. The prayer to the Holy Spirit was led by Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

After a joint prayer, the bishops took an oath not to disclose information about individuals, as well as anything that could cause harm to the Church. Traditionally, the oldest bishop present at the Synod took the oath first. This year it is Bishop Ivan Martyniak, Bishop Emeritus of the Przemyśl-Warsaw Archeparchy.

Apart from the bishops who are members of the Synod, priests who perform secretarial and organizational functions during the Synod, and other members of the Synod also took an oath of secrecy.

We remind that on July 7 the reading of the Decree and the solemn opening of the Synod of Bishops in 2022 took place. The Divine Liturgy was broadcast by Zhyve.TV.
