On Saturday, April 22, 2014, on the day commemorating the forty martyrs who were tortured in the Sevastiy Lake in Kolomyia, the Rite of Installation of the new Ruling Bishop of the UGCC Kolomyia–Chernivtsi Eparchy, Bishop Vasyl (Ivasiuk), will take place in the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Christ.

Kolomyia-Chernivtsi Eparchy was created on July 12, 1993.  It encompasses the territory of the seven provinces of Ivano-Frankivsk region:  Kolomyia, Verkhovyna, Horodenko, Kosiv, Nadvirniansk, Sniatynsk, Tlumatsk, as well as the city of Chernivtsi and the whole Chernivtsi region.  The first Ruling Hierarch of the new Kolomyia-Chernivtsi Eparchy was Bishop Pavlo (Vasylyk), a confessor of faith, incarcerated for many years in soviet prisons.

As we reported, on February 13, 2014 the Vatican announced that His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych, with the agreement of UGCC Synod of Bishops and in consultation with the Apostolic See, created the UGCC Crimea Exarchate, separating it from the present Odesa-Crimea Exarchate, and named Bishop Vasyl (Ivasiuk), the present Odesa-Crimea Exarch, as the Eparch of UGCC Kolomyia-Chernivtsi.

Bishop Vasyl (Ivasiuk), the newly-appointed Eparch of Kolomyia-Chernivtsi, was born on January 21, 1960 in the village of Dora in Ivano-Frankivsk region.   At first, he studied in the underground Greek-Catholic seminary, and eventually in the Higher Spiritual Seminary in Ternopil and the Papal Gregorian University in Rome, from which in 2003 he received a licentiate in dogmatic theology.

In July 2003 he was appointed the first Exarch of the newly-created UGCC Odesa-Crimea  Exarchate and was consecrated a bishop on September 28th of that year.

On May 23, 2013, after the sudden death of Bishop Mykola  (Simkailo), he was appointed the Administrator of the Kolomyia-Chernivtsi Eparchy.
