A tremendous disaster struck western German states. Powerful thunderstorms and floods caused by them took away more than 100 people, rescuers in particular, who were trying to save victims. These days we are uniting with all victims and expressing our deepest condolences to all families of the deceased and missing.

With these words conveyed his pain and prayer for solidarity His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC, in his letter to Bishop George Batzing, Chairman of German Episcopal Conference regarding extreme floods in Germany.

“Ukrainian people who just a week ago survived floods know well how damaging it might me. The consequences of this disaster reflected in lives destroyed, lost properties and thousands of families brought to the survival threshold have not been overcome yet”, wrote the Head of the Church.

He assured the German people in his prayer support and solidarity. “We are praying especially for rescue teams, who, making a lot of efforts and putting their lives to risk, are liquidating the consequences of this cataclysm. We urge clergy, monks and nuns, all brothers and sisters in the faith in Ukraine to unite in this prayer”, mentioned his Beatitude Sviatoslav.
