Head of the UGCC on Day 39: It is horrible to see the Russians smuggling innocent Ukrainian victims’ looted property

Just a few dozen kilometers away from Kyiv, in the liberated towns, we see the aftereffects of harrowing war crimes, mass graves with hundreds of lifeless bodies, people shot in the streets, sometimes with their hands tied, naked female bodies that have not yet been burned.

This was the topic that His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, reflected on in his daily address on the 39th day of the Russian war against Ukraine.

The Primate noted that during the past day, our land was again being throttled by Russian bombs and missiles. Our cities and villages are on fire again. Screams, groans, and howls are being heard today, rising up from the Ukrainian land to the heavens.

During the last night, our glorious Odessa was hit by a rocket. Fierce battles are being fought around Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donbas and Southern Ukraine. Indomitable Ukrainian Mariupol has been fighting for days.

“Yet, Ukraine is standing! Even more, the Ukrainian people are gaining an astonishing internal momentum to defend their Homeland. Even the atrocious footage that we see coming out of liberated cities and villages of Ukraine, gives us more strength and determination.

According to the hierarch, Europe saw similar, horrific images during the liberation of its cities and villages from the Nazis. Ukraine is seeing the same images today. And it is so important for the whole world to see and hear this.

“My heart aches at the very thought of seeing the Russian army carting away property looted from Ukraine by the truckload. This is the property of the innocent victims, whom the enemy wanted to wipe out of existence,” added His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Head of the UGCC noted that today we stand with our hands raised up in prayer before our God, begging Him to stop this war.

The Archbishop expressed his gratitude to the Marian Shrines of Europe, who sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament, requesting that Ukraine be accepted into the European Union.

“We are grateful that the consciences of the world’s true Christians of different religious denominations are with us,” he stated.
