«Europe was not based on the same-sex couples, but on the respect for human dignity», - His Beatitude Sviatoslav

The religious community of Ukraine is always worried about voting in the Verkhovna Rada for the so-called European packets, as Ukrainian parliamentarians often vote selectively for the laws, which are necessary for European integration.

This issue was stressed by the Father and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, in the interview to the newspaper of the Lviv regional Council, which is being prepared for publication.
According to the Head of the Church, tolerant attitude to non-traditional - homosexual marriages spreads in the Ukrainian society.

«Harmonizing the Ukrainian legislation with the European one, we adopt the diseases of the Western society very quickly. I want to remark that in the European legislation the Christian roots of culture are not mentioned. We are mistaken when we think that for the sake of the desired European prosperity we should suffer from these diseases », - said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

Due to him, in modern society that doesn't live according to God's commandments, there are different conceptions about morality and values. Often in the name of so-called tolerance, says the Head of the Church, life, which should be protected, is being destroyed.

«Among the requirements of the European community there are pseudo values. Today, the EU looks like a teenager who is experiencing the bounds of morality and needs Christian education.Europe was not based on the same-sex couples, but on the respect for human dignity , protection of its rights and freedoms, honesty in politics and business. Europe stood up on these foundations , but they have forgotten about this base. These are the values which are defended in our society by the Church. When we talk about protection of life from the natural beginning to its natural end, then it is the basis of the protests against euthanasia, abortion, and other actions that violate the dignity of life,»- said the Head of the UGCC.

He expressed regret that at present we live in a post-Soviet society, «when the dignity of a person is on the tenth place».
Afterwards His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted that nowadays the Episcopal conferences of Europe are working intensively so that the voice of Christians could be heard. «We strive for joining the European discourse, to defend Christian values in Ukraine and Europe», - added the Head of the Church.
He refutes the claim that if Ukraine adopts the laws regarding same-sex marriages,it will enter the European community. «I may say that it is not so. Sometimes our parliamentarians to avoid other bills want to carry out this one. It's so much easier for them in Europe and Ukraine to vote against the traditional family, than against corruption, unfair judicial system, which suffers from selective justice. They stress their attention on the incidental problems in order to avoid solving the main thing», - said the Head of the UGCC.
