The Patriarchal Cathedral is also built with paper “bricks”

On November 15, 2009, through the distribution of “bricks” for the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral, 850,429 UAH were counted. The Information Department received this information from Fr. Vasyl Vil'chyk, the head of the collection department of the Committee of Assistance for the Development of the Patriarchal Center. The largest sum of money from the “bricks” was collected by the Kyivan and Lviv Archeparchies: 222,190 UAH and 217,159 UAH. In the Ivano-Frankivs’k Eparchy 139,720 UAH were received in “bricks” (see addition for more details). From the autumn of 2007 to the summer of 2008 the first stage was completed, and on November 1, 2008, began the second stage of collection of donations for the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv through the distribution of special “bricks.” These bricks are printed with the nominal values of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, or 1000 UAH, and when purchased the benefactor contributes to a large cause. The “bricks” can be purchased in every parish of the UGCC of Ukraine, and also in the UGCC communities in Italy, USA, Poland, Germany, and Canada. The principal reason for continuing the action, according to Bishop Bohdan (Dzyurakh), is the frequent appeals of people who were not able to take a part in it before, or those who would like to purchase another “brick” for oneself or for a close one. “Discussing this question with our bishops, we decided to continue the action and hope that the economic crisis will not lead to a charity crisis of our people,” said Bishop Bohdan. The construction continues and thus the collection of money proceeds. In November in all the churches of UGCC in Ukraine, in order to collect money, a special wall calendar for the year 2010 is being distributed. This edition is unique for never before has there been in printed form the building chronologies of the future main church of the UGCC. There have been printed 30 thousand calendars. The price is 15 UAH. All the money collected from calendar will be used solely for the completion of the building of the Patriarchal Center of the UGCC.
