The Head and Father of the UGCC stressed this in his speech to the faithful on Sunday, December 1, 2019, in Khmelnytsky. On this day, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, Episcopal Ordination and the Rite of Enthronement of Bishop Ivan Kulyk took place in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Zarichanska Street, 10/3).
The Divine Service was led by the Father and the Head of the UGCC. Co-consecrators were Bishop Vasyl Semeniuk, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ternopil-Zboriv and Bishop Dionisiy Liakhovych, delegate of the Apostolic Exarchate for Catholics of Byzantine Ukrainians in Italy. The solemn event was attended by bishops of the UGCC and the RCC in Ukraine, numerous priests from different countries of the world, representatives of monastics, and laymen. Bishop Anthony Mahota, Metropolitan of Khmelnytsky and Kamianets-Podilsky of the OCU was present at the Liturgy, too.
According to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, "faith is the ability of a person to bring before God his own infirmity, illness, misery, and helplessness. After all, he who believes in God, allows Him to send spiritual power into his life. A person who believes in God and confesses his sinfulness, enables the Almighty to touch him, and such faith eliminates fear, enables our Heavenly Father to create a miracle."
According to the spiritual leader of the Greek Catholics, people are often afraid, and there are various reasons for this. Therefore, one should improve one's knowledge of God as a loving Father.
"Today in Khmelnytsky, without exaggeration, is a historical event ... For the first time in the history of our Church, episcopal ordination takes place in this city," said the Head of the UGCC. "Before your eyes Bishop Ivan has received the fullness of the grace of the Holy Spirit, and now the Lord is sending him as the apostle's successor to His people."
At the end of the Liturgy, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, addressed all of the present and expressed his greetings to Bishop Ivan and wished him all the blessings in his ministry.
The Kamianets-Podilsky eparchy today has a registered congregation of seventy parishes, more than fifty temples and over thirty priests.
"I want to truly thank God for having gathered us in this church. I thank Him for the gift of life, for the gift of priestly vocation, and for the gift of this high priestly ministry. Today, I am grateful that the Almighty has always been and is with me, and especially in a moment of doubt: when logic prompted me to say no, but the Lord gave faith and power to accept His will and follow Him. Now, I ask Him to continue to be light, truth, and life to me,” said Bishop Ivan Kulyk in his thank-you speech.
It should be recalled that on December 11, 2015, the Vatican informed that the Pope had blessed the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC to establish the Kamianets-Podilsky Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with a center in Khmelnytsky, separating it from the territory of Ternopil-Zboriv. The eparchy covers the Khmelnytsky region.
