Way of the Cross united thousands in Zolochiv

On the first Sunday of Great Lent (March 24, 2013) a prayerful Way of the Cross walked the streets of Zolochiv in Lviv region. The procession was headed by clergy of the city’s various confessions. This year, in spite of the bad weather, some 5,000 participated in the prayer. Information was provided by Rev. Yoakym Kovalchuk, OSBM.

On the first Sunday of Great Lent (March 24, 2013) a prayerful Way of the Cross walked the streets of Zolochiv in Lviv region.  The procession was headed by clergy of the city’s various confessions. This year, in spite of the bad weather, some 5,000 participated in the prayer.  Information was provided by Rev. Yoakym Kovalchuk, OSBM.

In turn, the Cross was carried by religious individuals, city and region representatives, educational and cultural institution representatives, medical doctors, army members, children, young people, and others.  At 3PM near the monument to Rev. Markian Shashkevych,  Rev. Avhustyn Shopyak OSBM the abbot of the Zolochiv Basilian Monastery read a prayer.  “Jesus Christ, our Lord, help us in making sure that our Way of the Cross is not just a fleeting religious feeling.  Help us, to accompany You on this road not only with noble thoughts.  Let us step on the Way of the Cross with our whole being and remain on it forever,” stated the abbot.

After this, there followed a three-hour long procession through the streets of the city.  During the ecumenical walk, there were sermons said by clergy of UGCC, UOC-KP, UAOC, and RCC.  The prayerful procession ended at the chapel-monument on Castle Hill.
