On Saturday, November 28, the lighting of candles in the Ukrainian School of Yaroslav the Wise in Brussels concluded the commemoration of honoring of the innocent victims of the Holodomor. This year's commemoration in the parishes of Brussels and Antwerp began on Ukraine’s Independence Day; a candle of memory was lit during every service in the churches. The highlight of the event became a requiem prayer, held on November 7 in Brussels, at the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Hudula of the Archbishopric of Malin-Brussels. It was headed by the Apostolic Eparch for Ukrainian in France, the countries of Benelux and Switzerland UGCC Bishop Michael (Hrynchyshyn). The program included a prayer to the Mother of God, a short performance by the Ukrainian parish choir Svitanok, performances by children of the Ukrainian school, and an international music concert by the children of the Chaikovsky School. Representatives of governments of Belgium, a number of international organizations, diplomatic corps and numerous Ukrainian communities joined the commemoration. The speakers stressed the importance of commemorating the Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine, which is also a measure to prevent such crimes from happening in the future.
