Uman will honor the memory of innocent killings of monks in 1768

On June 29, 2013, a commemoration of innocent Basilian monks, killed in June 1768, will be held, informed Rev. Pavlo Lokot. The prayer service will be headed by the pastor of the UGCC Cathedral of the Blessed Mother, Rev. Dmytro Beley. Faithful from Kyiv, Bila Tserkva, and Basilian monks are expected.

On June 29, 2013, a commemoration of innocent Basilian monks, killed in June 1768, will be held, informed Rev. Pavlo Lokot. The prayer service will be headed by the pastor of the UGCC Cathedral of the Blessed Mother, Rev. Dmytro Beley.  Faithful from Kyiv, Bila Tserkva, and Basilian monks are expected.

At 11:00 am, the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated, followed by a Panakhyda [Requiem Service].

After the prayer services, the historian Oleksndr Kuzmenko will present a historical overview of the activities and death of the Basilian monks.

As is known, many monks, together with their superior, Rev. Irakliy Kostetsky, as well as some young students were murdered on the night of June 22,1768, during the rebellion in Kolyivshchyna.  Different sources estimate that the number of students and monks killed reaches some 400.
