Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Spain celebrate Christmas and visit archbishop of Tarragona

On Sunday, January 16, after the Divine liturgy, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic community of the province of Tarragona (100 km from Barcelona) visited Archbishop of Tarragona Jaume Pujol. Father Ivan Levytskyi, community chaplain of the cities of Tarragona and Barcelona, met and greeted the honorable guest. Then the community welcomed the bishop according to Ukrainian custom with an embroidered cloth and a korovai (bread), and children gave the guest flowers. In addition, the community expressed gratitude for having the opportunity since December 2010 to gather every Sunday in the Church of the Holy Apostle Paul in Tarragona to worship. Young Ukrainians from Barcelona performed a vertep – a short play about the nativity scene – for all the participants. "It was joyful to hear many of the Ukrainian carols, stories about events of that time. The vertep allowed us to experience this holiday at a deeper level: God became man so that people could know and love him better and to love each other," said the organizers of the celebration. The celebration ended with the festive meal.
