Ukrainian Bishops from Poland meet with Pope Francis

Tuesday, 04 February 2014, 22:02
At the end of January the next series of visits known as Ad limina apostolorum [To the Apostolic Doorstep] began in the Vatican. We remind readers that that every 5 years or when it is possible, Catholic bishops from throughout the world take turns in visiting Rome in order to meet with the Pope in person.

This visit also includes prayer in Rome’s Basilicas, meetings with the Vatican congregations and other offices as well as a group meeting of the bishops with the Pope who provides them with appropriate directives based on having reviewed their reports.

During January 27-31, 2014, the Catholic bishops of Austria were on such a visit in the Vatican, and during February 1-8, 2014, such a visit was made by the Catholic bishops of Poland.   The Holy Father received the first group of the Polish bishops on Saturday, February 1st, which included the hierarchs of the Metropolitanate of Gnieza, Poznan, and Lodz, as well as the UGCC Metropolitanate of Peremyshl – Warsaw.  This Metropolitanate unites the Peremyshl-Warsaw Archeparchy, headed by Archbishop Ivan (Martyniak), assisted by Bishop Yevhen (Popovych) and the Wroclaw-Gdansk Eparchy, headed by Bishop Volodymyr (Yushchak).
