UGCC Head believes that any other Ukrainian patron has yet to grow to reach the great patron who was Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, UGCC Head stated this in talking about this year's presentation of the Andrey Sheptytsky Medal to Ukrainian entrepreneur Victor Pinchuk. I think that everyone who today calls himself a patron, has yet to grow in virtue and benevolence of her/his deeds  to the style and zealousness of the great philantropist who was Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.

UGCC Prelate noted that our Church never cooperated with Victor Pinchuk in charitable projects, but, probably the Jewish community cooperated with him, if they decided to honor him with such an award.  We note, that it is specifically the Jewish community that selects the laureats of this award. “Since Metropilitan Andrey is the face of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church of the 20^th century and in order not to  separate his activities for the sake of saving Jews during World War II from his Church and pastoral services, I decided to attend this ceremony,” explained His Beatitude Sviatoslav. As has been announced on November 18^th in Kyiv the ceremony of the awarding of the Medal of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky to Ukrainian entrepreneur Victor Pinchuk will take place.  Participating in the event will be the French philosopher and writer Bernard-Henri Levi,  former president of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, and the American historian Timothy Snyder.  The Co-Heads of the ceremony will be His Beatitude Sviatoslav, UGCC Father and Head, and Yaakov Dov Bleich, the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and all of Ukraine.

The Medal of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky is every year awarded by the Israeli Confederation of Ukraine and the Canadian Charitable Organization:  Ukrainian-Israeli Meetings  to  individuals from Ukraine, Israel or their diasporas  who have made  a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian– Jewish understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
