On the first Sunday of July when the UGCC celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Naval Forces. That is why we strive to solemnly devote our sailors to the perpetual help of Virgin Mary, so she constantly guard our sailors and all who defend borders of our Independent State at the sea. The Father and Head of the UGCC said in his homily.

The Major Archbishop pointed out that in today’s Gospel we hear a story of calling first disciples, and welcomes us to ponder over God who calls. What is the aim God sets in front of us?  What He calls us for?

As for him, today we see how Christ calls His disciples to share His mission. Initially, Christ called the disciples at the sea, which symbolizes original chaos and from there God wants to invite every person to harmony, beauty and holiness.

Referring to the Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Head of the Church explained that this is not a feast of some icon as we say the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The Blessed Virgin Mary relentlessly intercedes for God’s people and today we honor her relentless guardianship.

Hence, the Head of the Church noted that on this day we simultaneously celebrate the Day of Naval Forces.

“We strive to solemnly devote our sailors to the perpetual help of Virgin Mary and pass them the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help”, summed up the spiritual leader of Ukrainians.
