Today UGCC has 1,012 Mothers is Prayer communities

On December 21, 2011, in the Metropolitan Palace on St. George’s Hill in Lviv, Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), auxiliary bishop Lviv Archeparchy of the UGCC, met with eparchial coordinators of the movement Mothers in Prayer of Ukraine. Expressing their views on the further development of the movement, all the coordinators presented their eparchial communities, said Fr. Dr. Mykhailo Dymyd, creator of the movement Mothers in Prayer of the UGCC. To further develop the movement a statutory basis is needed, so representatives of Mothers in Prayer asked His Beatitude Sviatoslav to approve the movement. In response, the head of the UGCC set up a commission for a detailed study of the spiritual life of Mothers in Prayer. The members of this committee included Bishop Benedict (Aleksiychuk), Fr. Orest Vilchynsky, Fr. Rostyslav Bubniak, and Sister Vasylia Strutynska, OSBM. Today the UGCC has 1,013 communities of this movement, of which 966 are in Ukraine.
Mothers who belong to the community gather weekly to pray together. This movement is the largest modern lay movement of the UGCC. “Mothers create a community where there is a sisterly spirit and where women can confidentially open their souls and together deliver their problems to the Lord, and it is very important,” said Fr. Dr. Myhkailo Dymyd.
