The representatives of the UGCC Commission "Justice and Peace" in Lutsk, discussed the "Democratic values within the society"

On the 7th of December 2012, the representatives of the UGCC Commission “Justice and Peace", Mykhaylo Melnyk and Fr. Oleh Luka, within the frames of the project "Democratic values within the society", visited the city of Lutsk. In the assembly hall of the Lesya Ukrainka Eastern Europe National University, the Head of the Commission Mykhaylo Melnyk conducted an open lecture on "Democratic Consolidation of the political elite: the evaluative aspect." The meeting was held with the students from different faculties, who showed the above-average activity in the further discussion also.

The question of the Head of the Commission, regarding what required for the formation of the new elite in Ukrainian society, received a number of various opinions and suggestions. However, students placed a significant emphasis on the formation of the youth in the light of ethical values, on the practicality of the relations, on an important role of Christian values, what will promote the renewal and the creation of the new elite as the leading element within the society. Among the special features of the political elite, according to students, there should be the responsibility and the political culture.

"Nowadays, one of the most important aspects of the research within our society is the political elite, which in the conditions of the transitional societies, has the most significant influence on the political process, as it is the carrier of the leading social and political values and makes the process of social development. However, the driver and the dynamic component, the potential of which is capable of significant, real and good results within the society, is youth. Gaining of the experience, knowledge, search of the motivation and of the self-realization of the young person are capable of changing the society. Christian values are, thus, to serve as a solid foundation both in shaping the individual and the society as a whole ", - stressed Mykhaylo Melnyk.

After this meeting with the students, there was also the working meeting held between the Head of the UGCC Commission "Justice and Peace", Mykhaylo Melnyk, and the Deputy Head of the Commission, Fr. Oleh Luka, with the Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Eastern Europe National University, Ihor Kotsan. There was an agreement on a series of practical measures reached regarding the cooperation, which both this year and the next 2013, will be implemented and will be based on the education and on the Christian formation of young students.
