The Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav is visiting Rome on a working visit

On Tuesday June 14, 2011 at 18.30 the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, during his visit to Rome met with Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Holy See, Tetiana Izhevska. During the meeting, both sides discussed organizational issues related to the set up of Christmas Tree on St. Peter’s Squares in Rome in December 2011 as a gift from the UGCC and State of Ukraine.   On Wednesday, June 15 at 8.30 His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with Cardinal Agostino Vallini, Vicar General of Rome. In the afternoon the Head of the UGCC had a meeting with representatives of the Community of St. Egidius. During his meetings, His Beatitude was accompanied by the Most Rev. Bishop Dionisiy Liakhovych, Apostolic Visitor for the Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Italy and Spain.   From 17 till 20 June His Beatitude Sviatoslav will be presiding at the Permanent Synod of Bishops of the UGCC which usually takes place three times a year in different Ukrainian Eparchies and once abroad. Within the Synod’s work, on Friday June 17, the Head of the UGCC will meet with the UGCC clergy in Italy. As for now, there are 55 priests permanently serving in Italy, ministering 139 UGCC missionary centers in different regions of Italy.   June 18-19 His Beatitude Sviatoslav will pay a visit to the region of Liguria visiting the UGCC faithful there. Other events in the UGCC Primate’s programme to Italy will include: meeting with the President of the Italian Bishop’s Conference, Archbishop of Genoa, Cardinal Angelo Bagniasco; participation in a solemn procession “Corpus Domini”; a Pontifical Divine Liturgy in the Church of St. Stefan in Genoa, and meeting with the Ukrainian community of Liguria.
