His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, personally and on behalf of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC greeted Bishop Borys Gudziak, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Philadelphia, on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

"We bring our prayers to the throne of the Most High, thanking Him for calling you to the path of sacrificial devotion to the Church and our people, endowing you with His gifts, which you have generously multiplied during your life," the greeting letter reads.

The Head of the UGCC noted the fruits of the spiritual and patriotic upbringing of Bishop Borys given to him by his parents, which was enhanced by membership in nationally oriented organizations, particularly, in Plast. He also mentioned good education, which bishop received in the best universities in the world. All this, through his service, has abundantly spilled over on our Church.

The Head of the Church emphasized the role of Bishop Borys in the development of theology. "As a worthy follower of our glorious Metropolitan Andrey and a great admirer of Patriarch Josyf, you have made incredible efforts to realize their dream - to revive the Lviv Theological Academy and build a Ukrainian Catholic University on its foundation, having given all your knowledge and talent to this educational institution," wrote His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Primate also noted the openness to God's will on the part of Bishop Borys, which helped him to give a new breath to the exarchate of our Church in France.

“Today, as you serve as a bishop in the Metropolitanate of Philadelphia, separated by the ocean from your mother Church, you have become a caring spiritual father, a zealous preacher of God's Word, an example of sacrificial service that runs from heart to heart.”

“I cannot but mention your active participation in the meetings of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC and unconditional authority you have among our bishops, which contributed to many important decisions for the good of our Church… All this testifies that you are a man of great faith and deep wisdom," said the Head of the UGCC.
