Preparation for upcoming Patriarchal Sobor in Stamford Eparchy

Representatives of clergy, religious and lay people of Stamford eparchy gathered on Thursday, February 17 in St. Mary's Villa in Sloatsburg, NY to discuss and exchange ideas about the role of religious people in the Church, their mission and their response to modern challenges. The Eparchial sobor of Stamford Eparchy is a preparation for the upcoming Patriarchal Sobor, which will be held in Brazil. A reminder: V Patriarchal Sobor of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will be held from August 31 to September 4, 2011 in Prudentopolis, Brazil and that the theme of this gathering of bishops, priests, religious and lay people of our Church will be the Religious and Consecrated Life. It will be the first ever Sobor held outside of Ukraine The resolutions and proposals of the Eparchial Sobor have been sent to the organizing committee of the V Patriarchal Sobor in Brazil and published on the Eparchial web-site:

Resolutions of the Eparchy of Stamford for the Patriarchal Sobor in Brazil in 2011

 

In response to the request of the UGCC Patriarchal Sobor, the religious orders of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford gathered for the eparchial convention resolved:

 

Religious Communities mission:

• to be Christ’s centered community;
• to serve others;
• to hold a Youth Conventions as an opportunity to introduce religious communities;
• to spread information about the religious life among our faithful;
• to challenge youth to grow in Christian virtue, and discern priestly or religious vocation;
• to collaborate with priests and faithful;
• to serve community beyond the retirement age (often actively minister and function in the “golden age”).

 

Eparchial Clergy’s mission:

• to preach religious vocations;
• to encourage young people to discern a vocation to the religious life;
• to collaborate with families and religious communities, so there will be personal contact with religious communities and young people;
• to encourage youth to visit monasteries and organize parish trips to religious sanctuaries.

 

Laity’s mission:

• To encourage and pray for vocations to religious life & the priesthood;
• To participate in pilgrimages organized by Religious Communities;
• To visit monasteries and religious sanctuaries.

 

Youth Mission:

• to be not afraid to make a decision about religious life
• not to fall under the pressure of the peers
• to be not selfish but understand selflessness
• to trust Christ.
