Pilgrimage of Greek Catholics on the Appearance Mountain near Peremyshl was held

On Sunday, August 15, the annual pilgrimage of Greek Catholics to the Appearance Mount near Peremyshl took place. The pilgrimage was organized by the parish of Arch Cathedral Church in Peremyshl. According to an ancient legend, in the 17^th century the Holy Mother of God appeared to the local residents on the Appearance Mount. On the mount was a spring with healing water. Afterward, a church was built that was destroyed during the Tatar invasion. A second church was built at the beginning of the18th century. Fifty years later the third church was built which stood until 1947 when Ukrainians were deported from their native lands. A fourth church was built by the efforts of current Fr. Yevhen Popovych, members of the Parochial Council, and the faithful of the parish in Peremyshl. Today it is a pilgrimage site. The Divine Liturgy was led by Archbishop Ivan (Martynyak), and a sermon was said by Bishop of Wroclaw-Gdansk Volodymyr (Yuschak). This year most pilgrims to the mountain came from Peremyshl, but there were also faithful from Ukraine and the Wroclaw and Gdansk Eparchy.  Appearance Mount is one of the few miraculous sites in Poland that are visited by Greek Catholics.
