"Passion prayers" started in Kyiv

On the First Sunday of Lent, "Passion prayers," which will continue every Sunday at different parishes throughout Lent, began at all the parishes of Kyiv. As the press-service of the Kyiv Archeparchy reported, the purpose of such prayers is to experience Lent in a special way, engaging oneself in active Christian service through works of mercy and remembering, along with the passion of the Lord, the way of the cross of the people and the Church. The organizers of the "Passion prayers" have for the convenience of the faithful published a special prayer book which briefly gives a description of the history and development of the way of the cross and passion prayers in the tradition of the Church; also, texts of divine services are given. The book "Passion prayers" can be purchased in parish bookstores. Schedule of the "Passion prayers": First Sunday. Blessing of icons at parishes. The theme of consideration is «Man – created in the image of God. The vocation of man is to become like God in Jesus Christ through cooperation with the blessings of the Holy Spirit received in baptism." Second Sunday. The way of Christian piety: Fasting-prayer-mercy. Planned events: A prayer service for the deceased in the area of Bykivnya; visits to old people’s homes in the city of Kyiv.  Third Sunday. The way of the cross in Podil. Theme: «20^th anniversary of the exit of the UGCC from the underground.» Fourth Sunday. The way of the cross of the Ukrainian people (Askold’s grave and the Monument of the Holodomor [forced famine]). Fifth Sunday. Passion prayers under the cross near the Church of Saint Basil the Great (Lviv Square).  Sixth Sunday. Palm Sunday. A day of youth at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. On Saturday a processional way of the cross near the cathedral and a night vigil for youth. On Sunday a solemn Liturgy. For parishes outside of Kyiv it is suggested on the Sunday in Veneration of the Cross to conduct a passion procession «Seven words of Jesus Christ on the cross.»
