On Great Thursday, Bishop Mykhailo (Koltun) will wash the feet of soldiers

On May 2nd, Bishop Mykhailo (Koltun), head of UGCC Department of Peneteniary Pastoral Services, will perform the Rite of the Washing of the Feet among soldiers.  The service will take place in the ecumenical chapel of Archangel Michael, housed in the educational center of the State Border Service of Ukraine, located in Velyki Mosty, a town in Lviv region.

At 9 AM the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great will take place in the parish Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and at 11:00 AM – the Rite of Washing the Feet will be done in the chapel on the army grounds.

This prayerful rite will involve representatives of various army divisions who serve on the territory which is part of the UGCC Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy.  The Bishop will wash the feet of eleven soldiers and the chaplain priest.  The prayer dialogue of Jesus Christ with Apostle Peter will be said by the bishop and the chaplain priest, who serves as a pastor in the army division in Velyki Mosty.

We remind all that the rite of the washing of the feet is done by a bishop following the example of Jesus Christ who washed the feet of all his apostles at the Holy Supper.   Usually the bishop washes the feet of religious people. However, in following the example of Holy Father Francis, the Roman Pope, who washed the feet of the imprisoned, Bishop Mykhailo will express his respect to those, whom he is called upon to directly serve.
