Official meetings of the Head of the UGCC in Argentina

11-12 April 2011 AD - During his pastoral visit to Argentina, His Beatitude Sviatoslav had a number of official meetings with church and state representatives. On April 11 at 10:00 the Head of the UGCC paid a visit of courtesy to the Apostolic Nuncio in Argentina Archbishop Adriano Bernardini. During this visit, His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked the Nuncio for a very fruitful cooperation. At the end of the meeting they each exchanged memorable gifts. On the same day at 15:00, the Head of the UGCC had a meeting with Ambassador of Ukraine to the Argentine Republic H. E. Oleksandr Taranenko. They discussed the current state of affairs of the Eparchy of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a preparation for the Sobor and Synod of Bishops of the UGCC in Brazil and the Embassy’s activity.  The Embassy represents Ukraine not only in Argentina, but also in Paraguay, Uruguay and Chili. On the morning  of April 12, His Beatitude Sviatoslav had a meeting with the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge Mario Card. Bergolio. The Head of the UGCC expressed his gratitude for prayers and support in development of our eparchy in Argentina. His Beatitude Sviatoslav also invited Card. Bergoglio to visit Ukraine. At the end of the meeting, he presented to the Cardinal an Eastern prayer rope and an icon. Afterwards, at 15:00, His Beatitude Sviatoslav met with representatives of the Ministry for religious affairs, namely with Secretary General Guilliermo Rodolofo Oliveri, the General Secretary’s assistant, Juan Lauren Fabian Landaburg, and the General Director for Catholic religion, Luis Sager Vonrock. During the meeting the employees of the Embassy expressed a vivid interest in the history, development and current state of our Church in Ukraine as well as abroad. The Head of the UGCC thanked them for cooperation and expressed his hopes for helping a new Bishop, who will be appointed soon, in his service for the Ukrainian Greek Catholics in Argentina. During each meeting His Beatitude presented the Administrator of the Eparchy of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Rev. Louis Hlynka who will be fulfilling his office until a new Bishop is appointed.
