Meeting of the clergy in the Eparchy of Melbourne

Soborchyk (meeting of the clergy) took place on October 20-22 via the online platform Zoom in the Melbourne Eparchy. Due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as the severe lockdown in Australia, it is impossible to gather live for the second year in a row. That is why it was decided to hold this meeting at least online.

Clergy gathering began with a prayer led by His Excellence Bishop Mykola Bychok. Afterwards, working sessions began, during which a number of important topics were discussed for three days, which today affect the clergy in Australia. A lot of time was devoted to the preparations for the eparchial council “Emigration, Settlement and Global Unity of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church”, which is to take place on December 12 this year. Everyone came to the conclusion that the achievements of this Council could help to renew the life of the UGCC in Australia.

On October 9-10 this year, Pope Francis opened the synodal path in the Ecumenical Church as part of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops of the Catholic Church on “For the Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.” On October 13, 2021, His Beatitude Sviatoslav convened the All-Church Forum of the UGCC by his decree, which is to take place online on October 30 and December 11 this year. The Eparchy of Melbourne will be represented by 4 delegates.

In his address to the clergy, Bishop Mykola stressed that “today the main challenge for the clergy of our Eparchy is to make every effort to ensure that our faithful return to the church after many months of lockdown. Unfortunately, the situation with the pandemic has greatly hurt and divided our people. Therefore, let's be open and sensitive."

The meeting of the clergy ended with a joint prayer and the Bishop's blessing.
