Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Financially Supports Annual Call to Prayer Marian Pilgrimage in Centralia, Pa.

Philadelphia, PA—On Sunday, June 10, 2018 a presentation from the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus was made during a reception honoring Archbishop Emeritus Stefan Soroka for his years of service at spiritual leader of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. Pope Francis accepted Soroka’s resignation for reasons of health on April 16, 2018.

Supreme Secretary Michael J. O’Connor, Esq., a Frackville native, presented the Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Hutsko a check in the sum of $15,000 to support the Annual Call to Prayer Pilgrimage at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Centralia, PA.  The pilgrimage is held on the last Sunday of August.  Hutsko is also pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mt. Carmel, Pa.

In the letter from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, accompanying the check, he states, “The Knights of Columbus is pleased to support this praiseworthy initiative, begun at the suggestion of His Beatitude Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk.

The letter continues, “In a special way, we are pleased to offer this donation as a tribute in honor of His Excellency Archbishop Stefan Soroka, Metropolitan-Archbishop Emeritus and our highly esteemed brother Knight.    We simply wish to express our admiration for Archbishop Soroka and ask that you remember the Order in prayer before the historic icon of the Mother of God in your parish.”

This year the Annual Call to Prayer Pilgrimage honoring the Dormition (Assumption) of the Most Holy Mother of God will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Centralia, Columbia County church.
