In Vyshhorod His Beatitude Lubomyr speaks about person’s role in society

The former head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Lubomyr (Husar), visited Vyshhorod on Feb. 26. In the Dyvosvit center the archbishop talked about the individual’s role in society, his dignity and spirituality, and answered parishioners’ questions. The believers asked questions on how to overcome social temptations, how to find one’s way in life, one’s purpose. Young people who attended the meeting were interested in how to overcome social injustice and the insatiable attraction to wealth. According to His Beatitude Lubomyr, the presence of a large quantity of money does not make a person rich. “These new Ukrainians, the nouveau riche, who have just earned a lot of money and do not know what to with it, want to somehow show off, to show others that they are someone because they have beautiful homes and luxurious cars, but these people have empty souls. A person is truly rich when he is not only rich in property but also rich in spirit. He realizes that wealth is a gift from God and that wealth is not the beginning of everything. Such a person will always try to grow spiritually, can honor his neighbors, even someone who is very, very modest, poor,” said the archbishop. Many questions concerned the patriarchal status of the UGCC, the role of the church and the priest in modern society. At the end of the meeting participants greeted His Beatitude Lubomyr on his birthday, and expressed hope for another meeting in the near future.
