In Paris Ukrainians commemorate and pray for the victims of the Holodomor

The mark the 77th anniversary of the Holodomor genocide in Ukraine of 1932-1933, on November 19, 2010, in the Cathedral of St. Vlolodymyr the Great in Paris, opened the exhibition "Execution by Hunger: The Unknown Genocide of Ukrainians" prepared by the Ukraine 3000 charitable fund as part of the "Lessons of History" program. Later, French writer Roman Rizhka presented one of the three volumes of his work on Ukraine, the book "Fields of Cannibals" in which he describes the terrible events of the genocide in Ukraine 1932-1933. On Saturday, November 20, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with representatives of the Ukrainian community and of the Embassy of Ukraine in France. On Sunday people gathered at the square of Taras Shevchenko near the UGCC cathedral and in a procession, distributing cards as they walked, went to the Cathedral of Notre Dame for the Holy Liturgy. The liturgy was led by Reverend Michael Hrynchyshyn, apostolic exarch for Ukrainians in France, Belgium, and Switzerland, in concelebration with the exarchate’s priests and priests of other Catholic churches. Monsignor Boz, the patriarchal exarch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in western Europe, gave a meaningful sermon. Ambassador of Ukraine in France Mr. Alexander Kupchyshyn was present at the service. After the Divine Liturgy, an ecumenical memorial service was held with the participation of Orthodox priests Fr. Serhiy Herasymenko and Fr. Borys Haynevskyj of the UAOC.
