Humility defined by parishioners in Great fast essey contest

Tuesday, 06 May 2014, 14:16
A challenge was given to the parishioners of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Akron, Ohio, by its pastor, Fr. Vsevolod Shevchuk, at the beginning of the Great Fast this year.

The parish is in the Eparchy of St. Josaphat in Parma, Ohio whose Bishop is Most Reverend John Bura.  Father’s challenge was to compose an original essay defining the virtue of humility.  Two prizes were offered for the best entries:  one adult essay and one youth essay.  The winners’ entries were read at the Easter Sviachene Dinner.  These essays have hopefully inspired the writers and the listeners to ponder humility in their own lives and to deepen their understanding and practice of this basic virtue.

The winning essays may  be read on the parish website:  http://www.hgucc.org/church-news.html
