His Beatitude Lubomyr: Failing to unite our nation in the commemoration of the Holodomor shows that we have not fully matured as a nation

"I am very pleased that the community and such prominent people gathered to properly commemorate the tragic event of the past. Thankfully the citizens are preserving the memory of the innocent victims. This memory will guarantee that this evil will never happen again in our future," said the head of the UGCC after the prayer service at the National Memorial to victims of the Holodomor in Kyiv. According to His Beatitude Lubomyr, the history of nations is built on tragic moments. "It is unfortunate that there is no unity in the celebration of this important event. I think that all should be present in commemorating such a momentous event. It is these moments that unite us and teach us that we are one nation. When we fail to do this, when we are divided, then it shows we are not a mature people, not a mature nation,” stressed the head of the Greek Catholics. A commemoration of the Holodomor genocide was held in Kyiv on November 27. Patriarch Lubomyr, the head of the UGCC, Bishop Bohdan (Dziurakh), the head of the administration of the Patriarchal Curia, and Bishop Joseph (Milan), auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Kyiv took part in the events. Before the memorial service the participants walked to the memorial to the victims of the famine. Among them there were former presidents Leonid Kravchuk and Viktor Yushchenko, deputies of the Supreme Council, and more than 1.5 thousand citizens The commemoration was also attended by diplomats of various countries and representatives of various regions of Ukraine and public organizations.
