Father Sviatoslav Shevchuk has publicly accepted the decision of the Synod

"The ceremony of nomination is the completion of the process of electing a bishop. The nomination becomes evidence that nobody becomes a bishop by himself or takes this task on himself. The Church takes care that bishops were and are the initiators of the election of new candidates. It does not do this frivolously, but conscientiously and responsibly, looking whether a certain candidate indeed will be a good teacher, sanctifier, and pastor of Christ’s flock," said His Beatitude Lubomyr, Head of the UGCC, once before the beginning of the ceremony of nomination of a new bishop. These words relate to the event which took place on April 6, 2009, at the Cathedral of Saint George in Lviv, the nomination of Fr. Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Ph.D., as auxiliary bishop of the Eparchy of the Protection of Most Holy Mary in Buenos Aires, (Argentina). The main moments of the order of nomination: public utterance of consent and acceptance of the decision of the Synod and taking the oath. The bishop’s ordination will take place tomorrow, April 7, at 11:00. The main ordaining bishop will be His Beatitude Lubomyr; assisting will be Archbishop Ihor (Voznyak) of Lviv, and Bishop Miguel (Mykycej), Eparch of the Eparchy of the Protection of Most Holy Mary in Buenos Aires.  On January 14, 2009, we reported that His Holiness Benedict XVI blessed the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church to appoint Reverend Father Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Ph.D., rector of Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv, as auxiliary bishop of the Eparchy of the Protection of Most Holy Mary in Buenos Aires. The titular see of Castra Galbae has been given to the new bishop.
