On December 14, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine of November 10, 2006. “On a day of celebration in honor of the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl AES [Atomic Energy Station],” a day of celebration in honor of the participants of the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl AES was observed. This date was not chosen accidentally; on this very day, December 14, 1986, the construction of the protective “sarcophagus” onto the ruined fourth power unit of the ChAES was completed. On December 14, 2008, in the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God of the UGCC of Chisinau (Moldova), a Divine Liturgy was celebrated for the health of all the liquidators and those suffering from the Chernobyl catastrophe. Thus, consequently after the Divine Liturgy the faithful visited the memorial complex in memory of the heroes-liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl' failure of 1986, where they celebrated a prayer service for the dead and honored them by laying flowers.
