On October 26, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced during the Public Council for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Organizations that diplomas in theology obtained in foreign universities will be acknowledged in Ukraine. The leadership of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine presented information about the possibility of nostrificating in Ukraine theologian diplomas and degrees obtained which are recognized by the state, where the studying or the defending of scientific research was held. In the opinion of Deputy Chairman of the Public Council Yurii Reshetnikov, acknowledging foreign diplomas and degrees of theologians is probably the only way for Ukraine to form an appropriate cadre and researching staff needed for training specialists and for defending such degrees directly in Ukraine. In this regard, the above-mentioned council is ready to provide support to the theologians who wish to go through the process of nostrification approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine. Also, the representatives of the religions and the ministry learned about the current methods of training children in kindergartens. They discussed the expediency of having special spiritual and moral programs in Ukrainian preschools. First Deputy Director of the Institute of Innovation Technology and Education of Ukraine Casimir Levkovsky informed the participants about the features of training teachers of Christian Ethics and other spiritual and moral subjects. According to the academic, soon the Ministry of Education has to approve a comprehensive program for training and preparing teachers of such subjects. This program will introduce a new specialization in higher education for the academic year 2011-2012. As a result, graduates in the humanities will be eligible for an additional specialty in teaching spiritual and moral subjects.
