Concrete help for the Church communities of India and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church was discussed at the Vatican

At the Vatican from January 26 to 30, 2009, the annual Assembly of Organizations for Aid to the Eastern Churches (ROACO) was held. The assembly has members from 50 different charitable organizations. At the center of attention of this year’s meeting was the situation of Church communities in India and the granting of aid to the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, whose needs Fr. Borys Gudziak, Ph. D., rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, presented. The question of financial support for the Malabar and Malankar Eastern Catholic Churches in India, which are experiencing great growth, with an increase in the number of faithful and the creation of new eparchies on large territories, is being considered. Regarding the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, a summary was presented about what has been done in the approximately 20 years since the Church has left the underground. Current needs were noted, in particular in the sphere of religious education and the formation of the clergy.
