Charitable action of Caritas of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy

During Lent Caritas of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy will conduct a traditional charitable action, the «Easter lottery.» All the money collected during the action will be used for the necessities of children with needy families and youth with problems of mental development. Among the inhabitants of the Drohobych, Sambir and other districts, the towns Boryslav, Stebnyk, Truskavets’, and other locations tickets for the action «Easter lottery» will be distributed. On Bright Sunday, a drawing will be conducted among the participants of the action, those who purchased tickets. Thus, it will be possible to win many valuable prizes: tours to summer camps in Poland and the Carpathians, a mobile telephone, photo-albums, toys, souvenirs, office supplies, and so on. "Today in Ukraine are not the best times for the most part of citizens of our society. The economic and financial crisis touches perhaps all levels of the population of Ukraine. In such a difficult time we, especially, cannot forget those who are abandoned by the state, placed in the background and fighting the problems of loneliness. We cannot forget about the needy and mentally retarded children," said Marjana Korkuna, coordinator of the action. In addition, the charitable fund Caritas of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy is beginning another large charitable action under the name Hearts Opened. We will send the money collected during this action to needy people who ask for help. "Every year many persons apply to us with the request to provide them with material or financial help,” continued Ms. Korkuna. “There are different categories of socially-undefended citizens – single older people, the seriously ill, families with many children, and people who under certain circumstances have found themselves in a difficult situation. To us turn needy persons with the most varied requests: help in the acquisition of medications, conducting medical examinations, surgery, providing with food, orthopedic items, first aid items, and so on.” To help such people it is possible to make contributions in the special money-boxes with the logo of our Caritas which will be placed in shops, banks, pharmacies and other institutions of the mentioned region, and also directly at Caritas or in the bank account of the fund, with the note “charitable donation.”
