Celebration of the Day of Consecrated Persons in Lviv

On February 14-15, 2009, monks and nuns of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church celebrated the Day of Consecrated Persons. The celebration began with Vespers with Litia in the Church of the Protection of Holy Mother of God (Lviv). Vespers was led by Reverend Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna), appointed by the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC as responsible for monasticism. Concelebrating with the bishop was Fr. Andriy Seneyko, SDB, pastor of the church. Together with Reverend Bishop Hlib, Fr. Petro Baran, CSSR, a member of the Commission on Matters of Monasticism, Fr. Vasyl Linytsya, CSSR, Fr. Vitaliy Oleschuk, OSBM, Fr. Josaphat Khaymyk, OSBM, and Fr. Illya Bronovs’kyj, OSBM concelebrated Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Presentation in the chapel of Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv. At the eucharistic meal were gathered approximately 150 monks and nuns from different orders and communities. After the Divine Liturgy a talk for consecrated persons on the theme “Evangelization in modern culture” was pronounced by bishop-elect Fr. Sviatoslav Shevchuk, rector of the seminary.  "The celebration of the Day of Consecrated Persons, thanks to joint prayer and the sharing of the divine word, enables religious over and over again to immerse themselves in the depth of evangelical grace so that, full of its power, monks and nuns will be able to witness to the divine love in the modern world. Monastics are called to witness this strength of the Gospel, the strength of faith, hope and love, a strength which is so needed by today's world, with its superficial and often artificial values and necessities." So Sister Natalia Mel'nyk, CSHF, Head of the Commission in Matters of Monasticism, said at the end.
