Celebration of Josyf Slipyj’s birthday anniversary in Vinnytsia

From 2nd until the 9th of September, the parish of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Vinnytsia, which is under care of Fathers from the Charity of the Incarnate Word, is conducting a week of Remembrance of the Patriarch Josyf (Slipyj) in honour of the 120th anniversary of his birth. Over that period of time, during the Divine Liturgy in the parish church, priests together with the faithful of the Church apply insights on the “Testament” of the Patriarch; and after the worship service, are, with a common prayer, begging God for the glory of Patriarch Josyf, the servant of God.

On Thursday, the 6^th of September, the all-night vigils including the reflections on his pastoral message “Wish for Greatness” will be taking place. Moreover, during this week, it will be possible to attend the photographic exhibition, dedicated to the Patriarch, which will hold the same name, that is “Wish for Greatness”. This photographic exhibition was organized by the Postulation Center for the Beatification and Canonization of Saints of the UGCC in collaboration with the Center of Military Chaplaincy of the UGCC. For this exhibition, the material from the archives of the Institute of Church History was used.

Under the authority of the State Administration of Vinnytsia Region "On celebration of the 120^th anniversary of birth of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj (Josyf Kobernytskyi-Dychkovskyi)”, the following events will take place:

On the 6^th of September – the press-conference, with the representatives of the UGCC clergy of this region, regarding the celebration of the 120^th anniversary of birth of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj;

On the 12^th of September (14.00) – the memorial evening, named "the Prince of Church, Martyr, Statesman", within the frames of which an exhibition-portrait will be organized and it will be named -"Patriarch Josyf (Slipyj), as the ecclesiastical, cultural and public figure"; it will be held in the Regional Universal Scientific Library named after K.A. Timiryazev. The special participant during this event will be the Archbishop Lubomyr (Husar);

On the 17^th of September (14.00) – the memorial evening that will be held during the lecture at the museum club “Klio” of the Museum of Regional Studies on the occasion of the anniversary date of the cultural and educational event; the theme of this event will be “The personal fate of the Patriarch Josyf (Slipyj) is the history of Church and the state”;

On the 18^th of September (14.00) – the round table meeting with the participation of the UGCC clergy, scientists and bibliographers: Regional Universal Scientific Library named after K.A. Timiryazev. Among the leading participants of the event, there will be the professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv as well as the famous historian - Volodymyr Serhiychuk, who will present his book, named “Patriarch Josyf (Slipyj) in the documents of the Soviet State Security ” (2 volumes).

On the 19^th of September (18.00) – conduction of the festive and ceremonial academia with the participation of the seminarians of the Ternopil Seminary of the UGCC, clergy and laity, population of the city and region: the Concert hall “Pleyada” of the Vinnytsia Regional Philarmony.

Moreover, in September, the movies on the local television, dedicated to the 120^th anniversary of the Patriarch Josyf Slipyj’s birth will be shown.
