Catechism of UGCC presented in Moscow

The UGCC Catechism “Christ is Our Easter,” was officially presented in Moscow on September 29. The Catechism was presented by Fr. Serhii Nikolenko, administrator of the parish of St. Ihnatiii Антіохійського, and Oleksandr Shvedov, editor of the official site of the residency for Catholics of Byzantine rite in Russia (www.rkcvo.ru). Fr. Serhii Nikolenko first reminded participants of the presentation that the “Catechism of the National Church is not just a theological work, but that by definition the text should reflect and express the already established faith as presented in the context of the national culture, religious traditions, and more. Speaking of the Catechism of the UGCC, then in this respect it is perhaps precisely aimed at the Christian people who are found in this Church.” Oleksandr Shvedov presented the general structure of the Catechism of the UGCC: the Catechism is created on the principle “law of prayer – law of faith.” The two “pillars” of the text are the Creed and the Liturgy of Basil the Great, the fragments from which there are epigraphs to every part of the Catechism. According to Fr. Nikolenko, the Catechism “Christ is Out Easter” has great value, its target audience is evident. Speaking of Catholics in Russia, “currently we don’t really know who these people are, how much of a single religious and moral tradition they have. In the Catechism of the UGCC this is clear. These people have the legacy of an agrarian culture, the traditions of a patriarchal traditional family, which was not completely destroyed and which has the possibility to be renewed, and deeply rooted folk religiosity. By the way, the Catechism is perfectly illustrated with icons, on the back of these pages are fragments of services of relevant holidays, and the language of theology is for to average person.” Thus Shvedov told about the history and traditions of the UGCC. At the conclusion of the presentation all guests were able to ask questions.
