Bishop Jaroslav (Pryriz) named ruling bishop of Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy

On Thursday, October 27, 2011, the Vatican announced that Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), head of the UGCC, with the consent of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC, accepted Bishop Julian Voronovskyi’s resignation from pastoral rule.
On Thursday, October 27, 2011, the Vatican announced that Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), head of the UGCC, with the consent of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC, accepted Bishop Julian Voronovskyi’s resignation from pastoral rule. 

He was succeeded by Bishop Jaroslav Pryriz, who had been the bishop coadjutor of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy.   Bishop Julian, who turned 74 in May, headed the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy since its establishment in 1993. Since March 2006, he was helped by Auxiliary Bishop Jaroslav (Pryriz), who in April last year was brought to the dignity of bishop coadjutor if the eparchy.   The website of the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy reports that it covers six districts in the southwest part of Lviv Oblast. Pastoral care of the faithful – around 400 thousand people – is provided by nearly 300 priests in 220 parishes, united in 20 deaneries.
