On May 10, the Sunday of the Paralytic, we celebrate together the Day of the Sick. The Catholic Church has chosen children who suffer from different illnesses as the focus of the celebration of this year’s Day of the Sick. On this occasion, on May 5, Bishop Bohdan (Dzyurakh), auxiliary bishop of the Kyiv Archeparchy, celebrated a prayer service for the sick in the Chapel of St. Ahapit of the Caves, in the Orthopedic Section of the First Children's City Clinical Hospital of Kyiv, which is on Bohatyrs’ka Street. Children and their parents prayed together with Bishop Bohdan and the priests who are chaplains in this section. During his sermon, Bishop Bohdan underlined suffering, and also that parents are ready to give everything to make their children healthy. He gave special attention to the vocation of the doctor, who suffers together with the children whom he treats. Afterwards Bishop Bohdan anointed the children, their parents, and medical workers with holy oil which flows from the relics of Blessed Bishop and Martyr Vasyliy (Velychkovskyj). Consequently he gave the children toys and their parents an icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, and he gave the medical workers the prayer book "Bless the Lord, my soul," which is adapted for hospital necessities. Children who were not able to come to the chapel because of illness were visited by Bishop Bohdan in the wards, and he prayed for their convalescence, anointing them with holy oil. At the completion of the visit to the sick in the wards of the orthopedic and surgical sections, the bishop met with the head of the sections, Oleksandr Markovych Urin. During the conversation the bishop thanked the head for the work which he and his employees do for sick children together with chaplain Fr. Vitaliy Voietsa. At the completion of the conversation Bishop Bohdan presented a copy of the CD of the interview with His Beatitude Lubomyr «The road to one’s self.»
