On May 20, 2009, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyj met with Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.
On May 20, 2009, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyj met with Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.  Also present at the meeting were the rector of Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv, Bishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Bishop Leon Malyj, auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Lviv Archdiocese, and the rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Fr. Borys Gudziak, Ph.D. The archbishop expressed his gratitude to the mayor for the city’s significant support in the development of church and, in particular, educational structures. In particular he highly praised the presence of Christian ethics in the educational process of the Lviv Region. The participants of the meeting also discussed the issue of the proclamation of Metropolitan Andrey [Sheptytsky] as a saint of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.  The mayor of the city extended an invitation for His Holiness Benedict XVI to visit Ukraine, and in particular Lviv. At the end of the meeting the archbishop, signing the guest book, expressed his wish that Lviv in future remain such a religiously aware community and he wished the mayor inspiration in his work.
