A new Exarchate has been formed in the UGCC and the election of a new bishop has been announced

On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, the Vatican announced that the Holy Father Francis, having taken note of the decision of the Synod of Bishops on the division of Donetsk and Kharkiv Exarchate of UGCC gave his approval to the canonical election by the Synod of Bishops to Bishop and appointment to Exarch of to Kharkiv Reverend father Vasyl’ Tuchapets, hitherto Father Superior of the monastery of St.Vasyliy the Great in Kyiv and a provincial vicar. A new bishop was granted by the titular seat Chenturiones.

The date and venue of the Episcopal ordination will be announced later.

Kharkiv archiepiscopal Exarchate was formed by severance it from the hitherto Donetsk and Kharkiv Exarchate of the UGCC. It covers the territory of Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava regions, based in Kharkiv. Donetsk Exarchate now includes: Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk and Lugansk regions. Donetsk Exarch is Bishop Stepan (Menyok).

Father Vasyliy Volodymyr Tuchapets was born on September 29, 1967, in Javoriv, Lviv region.

He entered the monastery of the Basilian Fathers on November 10, 1986.

Life vows were put on 29 December 1996.

He studied in Ivano-Frankivsk Theological Academy and the Pontifical Theological Department (Warsaw). Has a degree of Patrology licentiate.

The sacrament of the priesthood was received on July 12, 1997 in the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Ivano-Frankivsk [Bishop Sophron (Dmiterko)].

Since 2005 - the Father Superior at St. Vasyliy the Great monastery in Kyiv.

Since 2009  - Monkhood syncellus in Kyiv archdiocese of the UGCC.

Since 2012 - the protoconsultor in the Province of the Most Holy Redeemer OSBM in Ukraine.
