5th Anniversary of UGCC Parish Celebrated in Eupatoria

On August 8, 2010, a celebration marking the 5^th anniversary of the foundation of the parish of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God of the UGCC in the city Eupatoria was held. Bishop Vasyl (Ivasyuk), Exarch of Odesa and Crimea, Fr. Bohdan Kostetskyj, pastor of the parish, Fr. Andriy Rak, priest of Roman Catholic parish in Eupatoria, four priests of the UGCC, sisters of the Lviv Province of Order of Saint Basil the Great, and laity took part in the prayer. After the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy, Andriy Servetnyk greeted Bishop Vasyliy, Fr. Bohdan, and all present on the occasion of the anniversary of parish of UGCC in the city Eupatoria and wished success to the parochial community in its development and building of its church. Close to one hundred faithful attended the Divine Liturgy to celebrate the anniversary of the parish.

History of the Parish in Eupatoria

Since its foundation the pastor of the parish of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God in the city Eupatoria is Fr. Bohdan Kostetskyj. Fr. Bohdan commented that the parish has grown from 5 people at the beginning to about eighty. All the faithful participate actively in the life of the parish and help each other and the priest to create a strong church. For the first time in the history of the Odesa and Crimea Exarchate the divine service is conducted in the Russian language. There is also a Russian-language parochial choir. By the joint efforts of Bishop Vasyliy, Fr. Bohdan, local faithful and donors, a land plot was purchased to build a church (construction work is to begin in the fall of this year) for the local authority does not want to give land for a church of the UGCC for free.
