There is still an opportunity to donate your own “brick” for the building of Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv

From fall of 2007 to summer of 2008, the first stage of fundraising took place for the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv. The main method for collecting donations was through the distribution of special “bricks” valued at 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 or 1000 UAH, which a donor could purchase in order to make a contribution to the bigger cause. From this first stage of fundraising through selling “bricks,” the eparchies and exarchates of the UGCC in Ukraine collected 3, 903, 132 UAH for the building of the cathedral.  Additionally, 43,000 euros in donations came from Italy as well $ 300, 440 USD from the USA. From November 1, 2008, in all eparchies and exarchates in Ukraine, there has been a renewal in the availablity of “bricks.” As was the case previously, the “bricks” can be purchased in every parish of the UGCC of Ukraine as well as in UGCC communities in Italy, the US, Poland, Germany and Canada. The main reason for this renewed method of fundraising, , according to Bishop Bohdan (Dzyurakh), was the large demand from the public who were unable to take part in it earlier or who would like to purchase another “brick” for themselves or a neighbor. “Upon deliberating this matter with our bishops, we decided to continue this action. It is our hope that the economic crisis has not begotten a crisis of charity in our people,” – said Bishop Bohdan. On September 1, 2009, through the distribution of “bricks” for the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral, 625 771 UAH was collected. From April 10 to July 10, 2008, the network of supermarkets Rukavychka helped to collect donated money. The head of the Committee for the Development of the Patriarchal Cathedral, Fr. Vasyl Vil'chyk, reported that through their actions, 12 984 UAH was raised. “We are sincerely grateful to Mr. Bohdan Kozak, general director of L'vivkholod Ltd. (network of Rukavychka supermarkets), for understanding the necessity of financing the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral and for his help in this Godly task,” commented Fr. Vasyl Vil’chyk. The construction process continues and so must the fundraising. In September, the second round of charitable concerts “With Faith and Love” began, with processed going towards the completion of the Patriarchal cathedral.
