Manifestation of mutual love: Head of the UGCC explained humility in marriage

The Christian understanding of obedience is not synonymous with discrimination, or slavery. To be humble means to know the truth about oneself. This was stated by the Father and Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, during a live stream of Zhyve Television, devoted to the role of women in the Church and society.

The Head of the UGCC explained what humility in marriage means. Citing the words of the Apostle Paul, he emphasized that it should be reciprocal. "A man should be submissive to a woman, and a woman to a man. And this humility is a manifestation of mutual love," the bishop said.

The model for marital happiness, he believes, is love to the point of complete devotion, as the Apostle Paul teaches: "Men love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her." According to His Beatitude Sviatoslav, such sacrificial love is a man's obedience to a woman.

"The Christian understanding of marriage is not the domination of one over the other," the Father and Head of the UGCC emphasized, explaining: In fact, the Sacrament of Matrimony is a sacrament of return to original harmony, as well as a gift of the Holy Spirit to the family.”

"Such conjugal love creates a climate of confidence. Then the woman is confident in her husband. She dares to give birth because she feels that her husband will never leave her until death. Such a couple can be really happy," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

"The Christian vision of marriage is a journey to perfection, to holiness together. It is a project for life, not only financially, but also a project for holiness - to be realized in perfection, in holiness, in fatherhood and motherhood,” the Primate of the UGCC is convinced.
